Brad Pitt Chanel advertisement’s sequel released one day after the first Chanel No.5 ad was criticised of being nonsensical. The second Chanel No.5 commercial shows Brad Pitt delivering a monologue, but this time the star has visual help from two females who also appear in the sequel of the Chanel ad.
The 30-second ad was also directed by ‘Atonement’ director Joe Wright. The second Brad Pitt Chanel commercial shows two women, one of them seems to be soul-searching while the other walks on water. The Chanel No.5 ad also shows a huge perfume bottle in the sequel with Brad Pitt repeating selected phrases from the first Chanel advertisement.
Commenting on the decision of Brad Pitt endorsing a women’s perfume, Andrea d’Avack, president of Chanel Fragrance and Beauty said, “To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view. It is the first time we’ve had a man speaking about a women’s fragrance. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume. No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level.”
Brad Pitt is the first male face to endorse the French fashion house’s signature scent and has been reportedly paid £4.3million ($7million) for his efforts. The first Chanel No.5 ad shows Brad Pitt saying, “It’s not a journey. Every journey ends but we go on. The world turns, but we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are.”
The first Brad Pitt Chanel ad came under fire from many avenues saying that the campaign was cheesy and favoured towards elite groups in the society. Time will tell whether the second Chanel No.5 ad will add to the campaign or dilute it.
